I am fascinated by the notion that a flat surface can be transformed into a fictional space for a person, a color, a texture to occupy. My life seems like a struggle with what to do with the space that I take up at any given moment, and my paintings are a reflection of this need to fill space meaningfully. Working in both oil and acrylic paint, each canvas seeks a balance between beauty and truth, order and whimsy, the grid and grace. The abstractions are an exploration in letting colors and textures fight for the space they want, while the figures reflect, wondering if they’re doing the right thing with the space they have. 5.19.12
